LIDIJA HORVAT DUNJKO - soprano- biography

Lidija Horvat Dunjko graduated in 1989; in 1995 received her master's degree in solo singing (leid, oratory and opera) at the Academy of Music in Zagreb in professor Zdenka Žabčić's class. She continued her professional development in Vienna at Mrs. Kammersangerin's, Olivera Miljaković's, and in Zagreb with Mrs. Dunja Vejzović.

Lidija Horvat – Dunjko has won many state and international awards, the most prominent ones of which are the following:
      1998 - two special awards at the International Competition of Young Music Artists and the 

                   University of Zagreb Rector's Award to the best student of the Academy of Music
      1989 - won the 33rd State Competition of Yugoslavian Young Artists in Zagreb and was

                  awarded The “Ivo Vuljević” award given to the most successful Yugoslavian artist of

                  the year
      2000 - the highest professional acknowledgment – the “Milka Trnina“ prize for exceptional

                  artistic achievements in 1999
      2004 - annual HDGPP award (Croatian Association of Musical and Dance Pedagogues)

                  to the most successful pedagogue in 2004
      1996 - honored with the highest Croatian acknowledgement for cultural merit with the

                  medal of the order “Danica hrvatska s likom Marka Marulića“

She made her début in 1988, while still a student, in the role of Despine in the opera “Cosi fan tutte“. She was later sucessful in more than 30 titles.

Lidija is particularly favoured on the stage. Alongside the greatest Croatian concert events “Varaždin Baroque Evenings” and “Dubrovnik Summer Festival”, with her recitals she has captured the hearts of the audience in Paris (Theatre des Champs Elisess), Vienna (Musikverein, Konzerthaus....), Toronto (Rayerson theatre, Massey hall), Berlin, Munich, Bruxelles, Dublin, Ludwigsburg, Mainz, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Torino, Venice, Zurich, Geneva, Ljubljana, Madrid, Lisabon (Teatro Tivoli), Buenos Aires (Teatro Colon, Teatro Cervantes), Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Dusseldorf, Johannesburg, Pretorie, Stellenbosh, Moscow (Tchaikovsky Concert Hall).., St. Petersburg,…
Thanks to the remarkable vocal range (upwards unlimited; all piano tones) and excellent musical education, she is one of the few singers working on the avant-garde music and the 20th century music in general.
She sang world premières in Vienna (the Musikverein concert hall, Konzerthaus) with the philharmonic and “Die Reihe“ ensemble with the famous maestro Friedrich Cerha.
Many modern authors wrote their pieces for Lidija Horvat – Dunjko: Luigi Donora (Italy), Alexander Blechinger (Austria), Brina Jež (Slovenia), Brino Bjelinski, Mladen Tarbuk, Marko Ruždjak, Stanko Horvat, Tomislav Uhlik, Zlatko Tanodi, Davor Bobić, ...........
Along with the avant-garde music, she has dedicated her talent to the stylistic renaissance and baroque music; since 1994 she has worked with the renowned ensemble “Vox antiqua“ and performed as the guest of the ensemble of the “Zagreb Solo Singers”, “Musica da camera“ and as a duo with the lute player Edinom Karamazovom.
She has worked with renowned orchestras and directors; Milan Horvat, Pavle Dešpalj, Igor Gjadrov, Nikša Bareza, Uroš Lajovic, Kazushi Ono, Arnold Katz, Vladimir Kranjčević, Giuseppe Raffa, Friedrich Cerha, Paul Polivnick, Aleksis Hausen, Arend Werkamp, Mladen Bašić, Loris Voltolini, Erol Erdinc, Conrad Artmuller, Norman Widjaja, Leopold Hager……
She has sung with the greatest artists of today, as are Ghena Dimitrova, Renato Bruson, Bruna Baglioni, Paata Burdhulatze, Nicola Martinucci, Ruža Baldani, Dunja Vejzović......
She has worked for the biggest TV and radio stations in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Germany, France, Ireland, Argentina, South African Republic.

2007 - coorganizer and participant at the INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR ADVANCED AND SYSTEMS RESEARCH held October 25th and 26th 2007 in Zadar

For her presentation of the scientific paper entitled VOICE AS COMMUNICATION MEANS, ITS USE AND PROTECTION she was presented with a golden award. Moreover, Professor GEORGE – ERIC LASKER, the president of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Systems Research and Cybernetics has invited her to join his team of experts in Baden-Baden, Germany in new research. She was also invited to present her research in Firenza, and at the UNIVERSITY OF WINDOR in Canada.
 

2003 - Founds and leads the INTERNATIONAL OPERA SCHOOL “MIRULA“ in Pučišć on the island Brač, where she has successfully directed 7 operas:

                                     COSI FAN TUTTE,
       - C.W. GLUCK: ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE,

for which she has received excellent critiques.
 

2004 – In the edition “MUSIC PLAY“ she has edited a collection of 70 solo songs by Croatian authors since the 16th century until the modern days, entitled “LJUVEN SANAK“, which is used as a teaching manual for musical high school singers and higher education students of singing in Croatia and Russia.

2008 - coorganizer and participant at the INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FOR THE PROTECTION OF VOICE “VOICE FONDATION“ in Zagreb.coorganizer and participant at the 2nd INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR ADVANCED AND SYSTEMATIC RESEARCH held in October in Zadar.
 

2009 - she is a member and the president of the field of arts of the Croatian National Curruculum Committee.
 

2009 - programme leader of the opening of the solo singing department and a guest lecturer of the solo singing department at the “J.Dobrila“ college in Pula.

Since 1996, she has been a permanent member of many Croatian and international singing competitions and competitions in chamber-music.


Alongside the extremely rich artistic activity, she does scientific and pedagogical work at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, where she works as Fellow Professor.
